The Winter Show, held annually at the Park Avenue Armory, stands as America's premier art, antiques, and design fair. Owned and benefited by East Side House, the event raises essential resources for more than 10,000 children and families throughout the Bronx and North Manhattan. When Chubb, the fair's Presenting Sponsor, invited us to create the Collectors Lounge for this extraordinary cause, we embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. Our design vision emerged from the Armory's own storied architecture and the layered histories present throughout the fair's curated collections. We sought to create an environment that felt both cozy and whimsical, a refuge where visitors could pause and absorb the richness surrounding them. The space needed to embody warmth and welcome while honoring the sophistication of its context.
Calico Wallpapers anchored the room with Supernova, a pattern we collaborated on in 2024, reimagined here in a new silver colorway created specifically for the lounge. The luminous metallic finish brought an unexpected brightness to the space, evoking winter's crystalline quality while maintaining an sense of openness. At the heart of the room, we designed a custom fireplace mantle in partnership with Arkada Plus, its celestial detailing echoing the Supernova motifs above. ConstructBK brought the piece to life with meticulous fabrication, creating a focal point that radiates both literal and figurative warmth. Artist Viviane Rodrigues conceived an original wall mural, expertly executed by Vicki Khuzami, while a Cotton painting by Frank Frances anchored the composition with quiet authority. For seating, we designed a custom sofa—fabricated by Classic Sofa—upholstered in Nobilis's spirited Galéjade fabric, an invitation to linger rendered in pattern and color. Overhead, Jeremy Anderson's Ephyra Cinque chandelier cast its sculptural glow, while an art deco rug from Rug and Kilim grounded the space with textural depth and historical resonance.
This project exemplifies the generosity and collaborative spirit of our design community. We are deeply grateful to Chubb for entrusting us with this meaningful commission, and to every artisan, maker, and colleague whose expertise and flexibility transformed our vision into reality within such an ambitious timeframe. Together, we created a space worthy of the Winter Show's mission and the vital work of East Side House.
