We customized this roomy Manhattan pied-à-terre for an LA-based family with three kids living on the east coast. It was a very texture-driven project—our client was drawn to soft, cushiony fabrics, like mohair velvet and shearling. We used this preference as a base for carving out comfortable gathering places, like a snug TV lounge and circular cocktail area that overlooks the city. The sleek home features an interesting mix of vintage and contemporary furniture, including hand-carved chairs from Japan and a custom makeup vanity. Our friend Jeff Martin, a Vancouver based artist, created the earthy fireplace tiles, and we reimagined a formerly dismal workspace to add informal seating with tons of natural light.
