Project: Heller Loft
Location: Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn
Size: 1,600 square feet
Status: Completed fall 2011
Description: This space was designed to maintain the openness of the loft while creating two distinct bedrooms and an office space. The corner loft has fantastic views overlooking the New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty, and the Brooklyn Bridge, so it was important to maintain the airiness along the windows. Our approach was to design large sliding steel and glass doors to the bedrooms, creating flexible environments. The island facing, bar countertop, and master bedroom floor are made from large elm planks, reclaimed from a theater set stage from one of our client's productions. The subtle gray tones and textures of the kitchen contrast the mid-century light fixtures. The exposed wood ceiling beams and original concrete flooring give a wink to it's industrial past.
