Project: Keg 229
Location: Seaport, NYC
Status: Completed - Fall 2010
Description: The design of the space was intended as a refined and warmer take on the industrial history of the neighborhood. The NYS liquor laws also played an influential role in the design. The laws requires a separate liquor license for each bar, so in order to incorporate the beer taps at the tables and only have one liquor license, we designed the bar as a series of branches. This spider-like design of the bar inspired the custom made brass light fixtures throughout, which we assembled with the owners. The thistle wall paper was a softer interpretation of the same theme. The tight budget necessitated the repurposing of some remnants of the previous restaurant, emphasizing the layering and history in the neighborhood.
