Project: Barbarini Mercato

Description: Barbarini Mercato is a high-end Italian market and restaurant in the historic South Street Seaport district. The design was conceived as an infusion of an industrial nature within a raw space. The entrance ceiling is adorned with steel panels plasma cut with the image of a forest canopy, allowing the light to filter through. This is mimicked in the dining area in the rear of the space, where sun from the skylight passes through a wall of staghorn ferns. The custom breakform steel shelves and hexagonal perforated cabinets is balanced by the end grain butcher block tiles on the wall and the color display of products.
